Barger Comes Through in Extra Innings for Bisons 3-2 Win over Rochester

September 20, 2022 – International League (IL)Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY – Addison Barger came through with the game-winning hit in his first career Triple-A game to give the Buffalo Bisons a 3-2 walk-off win against the Rochester Red Wings in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field.

Barger was just promoted from New Hampshire prior to Tuesday night’s first pitch and made several outstanding defensive plays to keep the game close, and then came up with the clutch hit for the Bisons seventh walk-off win of the season.

Runs and hits came at a premium for a majority of the game. Rochester starter Joan Adon allowed just two hits in his five innings of work, but a lead-off walk in the bottom of the fourth inning was costly. Nathan Lukes drew the walk to start the bottom of the inning and eventually scored on a Rafael Lantigua sacrifice fly that gave Buffalo 1-0 lead.

Bowden Francis allowed just one hit in his two-inning start for the Herd. The Red Wings first run of the game came in the top of the sixth to tie the score 1-1. Andrew Stevenson led off the frame with a walk and then stole his 34th base of the season. Three batters later Jake Alu drove in his 42nd RBI of the season to even the score.

Rochester would go in front thanks to a solo home run by Nick Banks in the top of the ninth inning. It was the outfielder’s 10th homer of the season to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

However, L.J. Talley tied the game with a home run of his own in the bottom of the inning. Talley’s eighth of the season was a solo shot that hit off of the fair pole down the right field line to tie the score 2-2.

Rochester failed to score in the top of the 10th inning when Eric Yardley and Foster Griffin combined to get the three outs in the top of the frame. The Red Wings left the go-ahead run at third base.

Eric Stamets pinch ran for Yoshi Tsutsugo as the automatic base runner in extra innings and advanced to third thanks to a Stevie Berman sacrifice bunt with two on and no outs. Otto Lopez was intentionally walked to give Barger a chance with the bases loaded and one out. The single to right field scored Stamets for the game-winning run.

The win snapped the Bisons losing streak at three games and helped the team move six games above the .500 mark. Buffalo and Rochester are scheduled to meet for the second game of the series on Wednesday starting at 6:05 p.m.
