Atlanta United 2 Defeats FC Tulsa 2-1
September 3, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Atlanta United 2 News Release
KENNESAW, Ga. – Atlanta United 2 defeated FC Tulsa 2-1 on Saturday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Jackson Conway recorded a brace to establish a new ATL UTD 2 single-season scoring record of 10 goals.
Atlanta started brightly, as Vicente Reyes’ long ball over the top found the run of Conway in the fourth minute. The Homegrown forward shrugged off a defender before stinging the palms of Austin Wormell with the first shot on target of the match.
Conway broke the deadlock in the 64th minute with his record-breaking ninth goal of the season. Tristan Trager sent a free kick from the right flank to the back post, where Nick Firmino headed across for the 20-year-old striker to finish with his left foot.
Dario Suarez responded for the visitors in the 69th minute, heading a looping Noah Powder cross to the back post past Reyes.
Reyes kept the scoreline level with a miraculous save on a shot from Rodrigo da Costa, as the ball found the feet of the Brazilian in acres of space. The Atlanta shot-stopper sprawled to his left to deny da Costa and set the match up for an exciting finish.
Already breaking the single-season scoring record, Conway added on with his second goal of the night in the 89th minute. Jonantan Villal drove through the middle of the pitch and into the final third before cushioning a ball into the path of Conway, who tucked a finish between the legs of Wormell for his 10th of the season.
ATL UTD 2 (5-20-4, 19 points) returns to Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia to face Memphis 901 on Wednesday, Sept. 7 (7:30 p.m., ESPN+).
