September 2, 2022 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)Angel City FC News Release

LOS ANGELES – Angel City Football Club (ACFC) Head Coach Freya Coombe and players shared their thoughts and excitement regarding the upcoming inaugural Copa Angelina match between the club and the Mexican Women’s National Team taking place this Monday, Sept. 5 at Banc of California Stadium (kickoff at 6 p.m. PT). The match will be televised live on TUDN (SAP available) and on the iHeart app.

Copa Angelina celebrates a mutual love of soccer, bringing together the storied history of the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and the path ACFC is forging for women in sports. The event will highlight the rich Mexican culture in Los Angeles through this first-of-its-kind partnership with ACFC, Soccer United Marketing (SUM), and FMF and the annual competition on the pitch.

ACFC Coach Freya Coombe

“We are all looking forward to Copa Angelina. This is an investment in the game to help grow it. This presents a new challenge and we are excited for it. This is a celebration of the relationship between club and country in our community.”

“I think Copa Angelina is another great example where Angel City is doing things differently. This is the first game that I am aware of where it is a club playing with a national team in this way. I think this is a great opportunity for us to embrace our community and for us again to be leading and doing things outside of the norm, but also help build these relationships.”

“There is also a lot of work being done off the field to support this initiative. I am really proud to be a part of it and love to see how we are helping move the game forward on the global stage.”

ACFC Midfielder Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel

“I think you can expect a good game because both teams are going to give it all for the fans. Just come and enjoy.”

ACFC Defender Megan Reid

“What excites me about playing against the Mexican Women’s National Team is that we get to represent our country on an international stage. We get to see players that we may not have been able to play otherwise, and experience new styles of play that we haven’t encountered yet.”

“We are going to have tremendous support on both ends and it is going to be really exciting to be a part of.”

ACFC Midfielder Hope Breslin

“I think it will be a great experience for both teams. The fans are going to have an awesome time. It is going to be packed, with so much noise. I am really excited to see where it takes us.”

ACFC Midfielder Lily Nabet

“The environment that comes with Copa Angelina is what excites me. The atmosphere, the fans, and really good soccer. Bringing two cultures together is going to be an amazing experience.”
