The Tri-City Americans (3-5-0-0) and Spokane Chiefs (3-4-0-0) faced off in Spokane today for their first meeting of the season. A pair of first period power play goals pushed the Americans ahead and they went on to take a 4-1 victory.

Raegan Wiles opened scoring for Spokane on the power play 8:21 into the game with Chiefs’ lone goal of the night.

Adam Mechura replied midway through the period, also on the power play, with a one-timer from off a rebound to tie the game for Tri-City.

The Americans capitalized on another power play to take over the lead with 2:41 remaining in the first period. Jordan Gavin made a pass across the slot to Ethan Ernst who scored with a wrist shot.

Tri-City’s success continued into the second period. Elouann Lemonnier made the most of a breakaway opportunity early in the period, netting his first goal of the season. With a goal and an assist tonight, the 18-year-old forward has matched his last season total of one goal and three assists.

Minutes later, Lemonnier took a breakout pass from Jake Sloan down the slot. His initial shot was stopped by Chiefs goaltender Mason Beaupit, but cleaned up in the slot by Ethan Ernst for his second goal of the night. Ernst, a 20-year-old native of Weyburn, Sask., has five goals and eight assists through seven games. Tonight is his second two-goal game this season.

Americans netminder Tomas Suchanek put on a star performance in net. The Czechia native turned aside 44 of 45 shots faced as the Americans were out shot 45-20.

The Americans will return to the Toyota Center next weekend for a pair of home games before embarking on their Eastern Conference road trip.
