October 12, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Tri-City Americans News Release
Americans vs Tigers
Wednesday, October 12 | Kennewick, WA | Toyota Center
Start Time: 7:05 p.m PDT
Coming off an electric home opener victory on Saturday, the Americans will match up against the Medicine Hat Tigers today at the Toyota Center.
It will be the first time the two teams have played each other since February 21, 2020 when Tri-City fell 4-2 in Medicine Hat. After no interconference games over the past two seasons, Medicine Hat and the rest of the Central Division will travel to Tri-City this season for the first time since 2018-19. Over their last five meetings, Tri-City is 3-2-0-0 against Medicine Hat.
The Tigers fell last night in Seattle 5-2, but hung in the game 2-1 until the third period. They are 1-1-1-0 on their U.S. Division road trip so far with a victory against Everett and overtime loss against Portland.
Both teams have been exceptional with a man-advantage to start the season. Tri-City’s power play (33.33%) is currently ranked third in the WHL, while Medicine Hat’s (30.77%) is fourth.
The Americans matched last season’s high for goals scored at the Toyota Center with seven against the Oil Kings on Saturday.
Their offense was hot from the start with six different players scoring goals: Ferguson, Ernst, Sloan, Gavin (2), Belton, and Bell.
15-year-old Jordan Gavin led scoring with two goals and two assists, his first WHL game with more than two points. Lukas Dragicevic also had his first WHL four-point game with four assists.
Tomas Suchanek played the full game in net for the Americans, turning aside 32 of 33 shots faced to earn his second victory of the season. For the first time this season, the Americans out shot their opponent (41-33).
