A Night of Power Plays Benefits Guelph

A Night of Power Plays Benefits Guelph

October 8, 2022 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL)Niagara IceDogs News Release

Niagara, ON – The IceDogs got off to a great first period start at the Meridian Centre against the visiting Guelph Storm. Even after an Aidan Castle goal was wiped out by an offside, their effort was rewarded with a Rodwin Dionicio power play tally, his third of the year, 7:35 in to take a 1-0 lead. Pasquale Zito and Pano Fimis helped out with assists. Guelph’s reply would be two late period goals, the second on a bad bounce power play of their own, skating away with a 2-1 lead.

The IceDogs played the Storm tough in the middle frame, killing off penalties, even getting some short handed opportunities of their own. Again it was Guelph getting the bounce to make it 3-1 after forty. The IceDogs would have to play the final twenty two plus minutes minus Dionicio who picked up a head check major and game misconduct.

The extended advantage would net Guelph two more early third period goals before Juan Copeland struck for his second late in the contest. Fimis with his second point and David Jesus garnered the assists. The Niagara power play would go 2 for 3, with Guelph netting 3 on 8 chances.

It’s a week long break for the IceDogs, who will be at home again next Saturday against the Flint Firebirds.
