Racing Goalkeeper Beall Loaned to Australian Club
September 27, 2022 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – Racing Louisville FC News Release
Racing Louisville FC agreed to a loan deal for rookie goalkeeper Hillary Beall that will see her play in the Australian A-League Women for its 2022-23 season.
Beall, 23, is set to join Western United FC, which will be playing its first season this fall. She is expected to arrive in Australia after the completion of the current NWSL season and remain there through the duration of the A-League Women campaign that ends in April.
Racing retains the right to recall Beall to Louisville at any time.
“I am really excited,” Beall said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity, and I’m grateful that Racing is letting me go down there and get minutes as a professional. Racing is a great environment and a great club. I am excited to be able to play as a rookie and come back in May. It means a lot to get that experience.”
Beall signed a rookie contract with Racing during preseason after a standout career at the University of Michigan, where she posted 285 saves and 79.7% save percentage, helping the Wolverines to the quarterfinals of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
“I’m very excited for Hillary’s opportunity to go on loan with Western United,” said Racing goalkeepers coach Sergio Gonzalez. “She has been very committed to her growth and development over this past season and adjusted to the demands of our environment. She’s brought so much to our goalkeeping corps and the team.
“The loan with Western United will allow Hillary to gain valuable playing minutes that will help accelerate her development. We feel this pathway will not only help in Hillary’s development in professional football but make our goalkeeping corps and team even stronger and more competitive. We will be monitoring Hillary’s progress while she’s away and look forward to watching her succeed.”
The California native has spent the season backing up Racing’s No. 1, Katie Lund, and working with fellow reserves Jordyn Bloomer and Kelsey Daugherty.
“Hillary is a great person and hard-working player,” said Racing coach Kim Björkegren. “But the problem for many young goalkeepers is just getting games, so this is a perfect deal for us and for Hillary, and I’m sure she will take care of this opportunity and learn from this great experience.”
