Chicago Fire FC Sign Midfielder Federico Navarro to New Contract

CHICAGO – Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has signed midfielder Federico Navarro to a new contract. Navarro is now under contract with the Club through the 2027 season with a Club option for 2028. Navarro will continue to occupy a U-22 initiative slot and an international roster position.


“As a player, Federico embodies the personality and grit of our city,” said Chicago Fire Sporting Director Georg Heitz. “He has demonstrated his talent and dedication to the Club and its supporters from the very first moment he stepped onto the field in a Fire jersey. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow with us in Chicago for many years to come.”

Since joining the Club during the 2021 summer transfer window, Navarro has made 40 appearances (35 starts) for the Fire and was named the team’s most valuable player in his debut season with the Club. Navarro has scored three goals as a defensive midfielder and provided three assists during that stretch. Additionally, his 62 tackles won are good for second place in Major League Soccer so far during the 2022 regular season.

“I’m very grateful to everyone at the Club, my teammates, the coaching staff, and especially to everyone that is with us in the day-to-day environment,” Navarro said. “Coming to Chicago has been a big step in my career and ever since I arrived, I have felt welcomed by the Club, the fans and the city. I can only promise that you will always have the best of me.”

Navarro, 22, was originally acquired by the Club during the 2021 summer transfer window from Argentina, where he played for Talleres from 2018 until moving to Chicago to join the Fire. Navarro made 52 appearances (42 starts) across all competitions for Talleres. At the international level, Navarro has featured for the U-19 Argentina National Team. In 2018, he made four appearances (four starts) for the U-19s at the South American Games held in Bolivia.

Navarro made his MLS debut on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, when he entered the match at halftime against Sporting KC at Children’s Mercy Park. He earned his first MLS start on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, against CF Montréal at Stade Saputo.
