Earthquakes Weekly Update: September 26, 2022

September 26, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)San Jose Earthquakes News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will host Minnesota United FC in their final home match of the 2022 season on Saturday, Oct. 1, presented by Socios.com. The match will kick off from PayPal Park at 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).


The Quakes and LA Galaxy played in the California Clasico at Stanford Stadium last Saturday, with the Galaxy prevailing 3-2. The match was attended by 44,200 fans, sixth most of any MLS match this season. The match also featured defender Miguel Trauco’s MLS debut, and first assist, and 17-year-old Homegrown Niko Tsakiris’ first MLS start.

Midfielder Niko Tsakiris made his first MLS start, playing 78 minutes.

MLS Debut

Defender Miguel Trauco made his MLS debut, playing 31 minutes in the second half. He also tallied his first MLS assist on Nathan’s goal.

Bay Area Represent

The 2022 California Clasico was attended by 44,200 fans, sixth most of any MLS match during the 2022 season.

Home Finale

Saturday’s game will mark the Quakes’ last match at PayPal Park this season. San Jose also previously hosted Minnesota in its final home game of the 2017 MLS season with the home side taking a dramatic 3-2 win to secure a spot in the MLS Playoffs that year.

Defend our Home

The Earthquakes will look to extend their three-match unbeaten streak at PayPal Park. The Quakes have only lost three times in 15 matches at PayPal Park this season (6-3-6).

Snapping the Streak

San Jose is in search of their first win at home over Minnesota since March 3, 2018 (W 3-2).

Even Record

The Quakes hold a 4-4-2 all-time record against the Loons, including an identical 2-2-1 record at home and on the road.

Bouncing Back

The Earthquakes will look for revenge after falling 1-0 to Minnesota at Allianz Field on March 19, 2022.

ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy Boys’ U13s and U14s extended their winning streak over the weekend, defeating Napa United 7-1 and 12-0, respectively. The two teams will now have a bye week, while the U15s and U17s kick off their season hosting the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Oct. 2.
