The Aftermath: Storm Completes Two-Game Sweep at Fall Classic

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA – The Tri-City Storm completed a two-game sweep at the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Fall Classic Friday night in a 6-4 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The Storm defeated the Madison Capitols by a final score of 4-1 on Thursday night to post a perfect 2-0-0-0 record in the event. Haden Kruse, David Sacco, Cale Ashcroft, Trevor Connelly, Graham Gamache, and Tanner Adams each notched goals in the game for the Storm. Karlis Mezsargs recorded the first victory of his USHL career in net for Tri-City.
Jake Richard scored his second goal of the season just over one minute into Friday’s game to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead. The goal was netted at 1:36 of the 1st period and was assisted by Owen Keefe and George Fegaras. Haden Kruse netted his first career USHL goal at 8:38 of Friday’s 1st period to tie the game at 1-1. Drew Montgomery and Seth Constance each notched an assist on the scoring play. Constance’s assist was the first point recorded in his USHL career. Tri-City outshot Muskegon 12-8 in the 1st period, and the 2nd period began in a 1-1 tie.
David Sacco netted the first goal of his USHL career at 6:42 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a one-goal lead in the game. Philippe Blais-Savoie and Kieran Cebrian each recorded an assist on the play. The assist for Blais-Savoie was the first assist, and first point, of his USHL career. Nicholas Rexine netted his first goal of the season at 9:16 of Friday’s 2nd period to bring the game to a 2-2 tie. The scoring play was assisted by Tyler Dunbar. Cale Ashcroft gave the Storm a 3-2 lead at 17:02 of the 2nd period. The goal was notched on the powerplay, and was the first career USHL goal scored by Ashcroft. Graham Gamache recorded an assist on the scoring play. The Storm outshot the Lumberjacks 12-10 in the 2nd period, and the team carried a one-goal lead into the 3rd period.
Trevor Connelly scored the first goal of his USHL career at 4:44 of the 3rd period to give Tri-City a 4-2 lead. The goal was netted on the powerplay and was assisted by Sebastian Törnqvist and Cameron O’Neill. Törnqvist’s assist was the first of his USHL career. Graham Gamache scored his second goal of the season at 8:50 of the 3rd period to give the Storm a 5-2 lead in the game. The goal was scored shorthanded and was assisted by Tanner Adams. Sacha Boisvert scored his first goal of the game, and second goal of the season, at 15:48 of the 3rd period to cut into the Storm’s lead. The goal was assisted by Ethan Whitcomb and Matthew Morden. Tri-City’s final goal of the night was netted by Tanner Adams at 16:02 of the 3rd period. Adams’ goal was his first of the season and was assisted by Graham Gamache and Seth Constance. Sacha Boisvert scored a powerplay goal with less than one minute to play in the 3rd period to bring Muskegon within two goals of Tri-City’s lead. The goal was Boisvert’s second of the game, and third of the season. Michael Callow and Jake Richard each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Muskegon outshot Tri-City 16-7 in the 3rd period, and 34-31 overall in the game. The Storm won the matchup by a final score of 6-2.
Karlis Mezsargs recorded the first victory of his USHL career in goal for Tri-City after stopping 30 of Muskegon’s 34 shots on net. Connor Callaghan dropped the game in goal for the Lumberjacks. He stopped 25 of Tri-City’s 31 shots on net during the game. The Storm posted a two-game sweep at the USHL Fall Classic for the second consecutive season.
