Union Clinch Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs Berth; Gazdag Sets Union Single Season Scoring Record

CHESTER, Pa. – Philadelphia Union beat Atlanta United FC 4-1 on Wednesday night at Subaru Park. With the win, the Union remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with 57 points. In the first half, forward Julian Carranza found the back of the net in the 18th minute after receiving a short through ball pass from Mikael Uhre right outside the 18-yard box, striking it in the bottom left corner. Atlanta claimed a goal of their own in the 24th minute when Andrew Gutman converted a header coming off an Andre Blake save. Three minutes into stoppage time, Uhre would put the Union on top heading into the break after finding a shot at the back post off a corner kick, deflecting into the top right of the net. In the second half, midfielder Daniel Gazdag would score his 17th goal of the season in the 67th minute, tapping in a ball at close range after a header in the box from Cory Burke landed the ball right at his feet. With the goal, Gazdag has set the record for most goals scored by a Union player in a single MLS season. Five minutes into second half stoppage time, defender Nathan Harriel claimed his first career MLS goal, collecting the ball directly in front of goal, sending it to the top right corner.
The Union will be on the road as they are set to face New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, September 3rd (7:00 p.m. ET / PHL17).
