September 20, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release

LETHBRIDGE, AB
– The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club held their 37th Annual General Meeting for the
Shareholders on Monday evening in the Canadian Western Bank Lounge at the ENMAX Centre.

Here are some of the highlights from the meeting:
Business Operations:



The Hurricanes saw a profit of $248,000 in 2021-2022, mostly due to saving on expenses and advertising sales


Inventory was sold to a 103% capacity


Season Tickets have seen a 98% renewal for the 2022-2023 campaign (Season Tickets are available for
purchase until September 28th)


Hurricanes are budgeting for a breakeven 2022-2023 season, with a projected profit of $1,088


Team finished as the Central Division nominee for the WHL Business of the Year


Many questions regarding the decision for Paid Parking by the City of Lethbridge and how it was negotiated

Hockey Operations:


The Hurricanes qualified for the WHL Playoffs for the sixth straight season in 2021-2022 before falling to the
eventual WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings in the first round


The Hurricanes have returned long-time head coach Brent Kisio for an eighth season, the longest serving head
coach actively in the WHL, along with assistants Matt Anholt and Ryan Aasman


Added Charlie Mattersdorfer to the coaching staff as a Skills & Development Coach


Conducted two WHL Drafts, selecting Miguel Marques ( ’06), Tristen Doyle (’06) and Will Sharpe (’07) in the first
rounds of those two drafts


Have signed seven players from the two drafts, including three from the 2021 WHL Draft and four from the 2022
WHL Draft


Ended the 2022 ENMAX Pre-Season with a 3-0-1-0 record, second best in the Central Division

Board of Directors:


The Hurricanes Board of Directors remain in full, with the re-election of the following members to three-year
terms: Cheryl Lane, Adam Zanoni, Reid Williams, Tyler Brack and Mike Mikado


There were no nominations from the floor for the Board of Directors


Doug Paisley remains as President of the Board of Directors and Governor of the hockey club

The Hurricanes open the 2022-2023 regular season on Saturday when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers at Co-op Place
at 7:00pm. The ‘Canes will welcome the Tigers in the Dairy Queen Home Opener on Friday, September 30th at the
ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm.
