September 19, 2022 – Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release

BOSTON, MA – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) in association with its seven member clubs has announced the official 2022-23 regular season schedule. The eighth campaign in league history will feature a record 84 games played over 19 weeks beginning Saturday, November 5. All seven teams have 24 games on the calendar, balanced evenly with 12 home and 12 away contests, and consisting of four matchups against each opponent. Tickets are now on sale in all markets.

“We are excited to usher in this new era of the PHF as we launch this 2022-23 season with milestones that show our growth including a greater regular season schedule, expansion to seven teams, a historical salary cap increase, enhanced player benefits, upgraded facilities, and elevated broadcast opportunities with ESPN,” said Reagan Carey, PHF Commissioner. “For our sport, for the athletes, our fans, and partners, we are committed to advancing women’s professional ice hockey and building the best home for women’s professional ice hockey. We look forward to strengthening connections with passionate fans in our traditional markets and in new communities across North America, while growing our worldwide broadcast audience through our extended relationship with ESPN.”

Opening weekend is headlined by a rematch of the 2022 Isobel Cup final that features the back-to-back champion Boston Pride hosting the Connecticut Whale on Saturday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Pride will also host the Metropolitan Riveters on Sunday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. ET. The other four teams will hit the ice in a pair of weekend doubleheaders to launch Season 8 festivities. The Toronto Six put their undefeated record on Canadian ice up against the Minnesota Whitecaps at 2:00 p.m. ET on Nov. 5 and 11:00 a.m. ET on Nov. 6, while the Montreal Force makes their highly anticipated debut visiting the Buffalo Beauts at 7:00 p.m. ET on Nov. 5 followed by a 1:00 p.m. ET matinee on Nov. 6.

The first home game in Force history is slated for Nov. 26 against the Riveters at Centre 21.02, the team’s training facility based at the Verdun Auditorium. The teams will then play a Nov. 27 contest at Montreal’s Aréna Raymond-Bourque. It’s the first of six home weekends for the Force who will showcase professional women’s hockey across the province of Québec to celebrate their inaugural season. Subsequent matchups will be played at Aréna Conrad-Parent in Sept-Îles (December 3-4 vs Connecticut), Colisée Financière Sun Life in Rimouski (January 7-8 vs Toronto), Centre Premier Tech in Rivière-du-Loup (January 21-22 vs Boston), Aréna régional de la Rivière-du-Nord in Saint-Jérôme (February 4-5 vs Minnesota), and Pavillon de la jeunesse in Québec (February 25-26 vs Buffalo).

The 84 regular season games represent a 24-game increase over the 60 played in 2021-22. Each team will be playing 24 games for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign that consisted of five total teams. This season will see the introduction of Friday night games in addition to the league’s traditional family-friendly Saturday and Sunday schedule. A total of nine games will be played on Friday nights this season, with 40 games played on Saturday including 19 afternoon games, along with 35 games to be played on Sunday afternoons. One of the season’s Friday games will be played outdoors at Buffalo’s RiverWorks on December 16, when the Beauts host the Six. Another highlight on the calendar is a special neutral site event planned for January 14 between Montreal and Connecticut, with more information still to be announced. The league will pause the schedule during the IIHF international break Nov. 12-13 and for a two-weekend winter holiday break with no games played on Christmas Eve/Day and New Year’s Eve/Day.

Three of the PHF’s six returning teams will have new home ice in 2022-23. Connecticut will play the majority of its games at the International Skating Center of CT (ISCC) located in Simsbury, CT following the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons at Danbury Ice Arena. Before relocating to ISCC in the fall, the Whale will open the season with two games hosted at Milford Ice Arena, which will continue to serve as the team’s practice facility for the remainder of the season. The Whitecaps have also announced a new home at Richfield Ice Arena in Richfield, MN where they will debut on Nov. 18 against the Pride, and a day later the Riveters commence their tenure at The Rink at American Dream against the Six on Nov. 19. Boston’s Warrior Ice Arena, Buffalo’s Northtown Center, and Toronto’s Canlan Ice Sports York remain permanent home ice for each of those three teams.

Details regarding PHF All-Star festivities the weekend of January 27-29 including format and location will be announced separately. The 2023 Isobel Cup Playoffs will begin in March with more information including format and other key dates still to come.

Live coverage of the PHF regular season, special events, and the Isobel Cup Playoffs will stream exclusively on ESPN+ in the United States, and to ESPN international affiliates which includes TSN in Canada.
