Berge’s Hat-Trick Leads Pats to 5-4 Win in Winnipeg

Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats wrapped up their pre-season with a 5-4 victory over the Winnipeg ICE at the RINK Hockey Academy, Saturday evening.

Parker Berge followed up from Thursday’s overtime winner against the ICE with his first career hat-trick tonight, breaking the 4-4 tie in the third with his third goal of the game. Easton Armstrong (1G-2A), Zane Rowan (1G-1A) and Tye Spencer (2A) chipped in with multi-point contests, while Matthew Kieper got the win, making 24 saves on 26 shots, with 20 of them in the third period.


The Pats finish their pre-season with a 4-1 record, while the ICE finish their pre-season 1-2-1.

THE GOALS

First Period

ICE 1-0 at 2:56 – Aiden Oiring (2) assisted by Evan Friesen (SH) // Friesen began a two-on-one short-handed, where he fed it across to Oiring who made no mistake to open the scoring

REG 1-1 at 4:04 – Parker Berge (2), assisted by Easton Armstrong (PP) // The Pats would answer on the five-on-three power play, as Berge ripped home a hard wrister into the top left corner.

WPG 2-1 at 8:14 – Skyler Bruce (1), assisted by Zach Benson and Evan Friesen // Benson deked past two Pats defenders before passing it across to Bruce for an easy one-timer goal.

REG 2-2 at 17:04 – Zane Rowan (1), assisted by Jaxsin Vaughan and Corbin Vaughan // Jaxsin Vaughan led a two-on-one where his initial shot was stopped, but Rowan was there on the rebound to tie it up at two.

Second Period

REG 3-2 at 2:14 – Easton Armstrong (1), assisted by Zane Rowan and Raiden Zacharias // With the Pats working the puck in the attacking zone, Rowan found Armstrong in front who tapped it into the net.

REG 4-2 at 14:34 – Parker Berge (3), assisted by Tye Spencer and Easton Armstrong (PP) // Parker Berge scored his second of the game when he smoked a shot into the top corner.

Third Period

WPG 3-4 at 5:01 – Aiden Oiring (3), assisted by Skyler Bruce and Zach Benson (PP) // Bruce walked in front from the left corner and passed it across to the right dot where Oiring finished an easy bang-bang play.

WPG 4-4 at 9:15 – Jonas Woo (1), assisted by Skyler Bruce and Aiden Oiring (PP) // The ICE won a puck battle down low where Bruce got the puck up top and Woo ripped it past Kieper to tie it.

REG 5-4 at 10:35 – Parker Berge (4), assisted by Jaxsin Vaughan and Tye Spencer // Berge ripped one from the line on the power play through traffic and into the net after a little deflection in front.
