Athletic Club Memento Joins Forces with Angel City FC to Auction-Worn Jerseys from SoCal Rival Matchup against San Diego Wave
September 16, 2022 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – Angel City FC News Release
LOS ANGELES – Sports memorabilia has never been more popular than today, with the category worth an estimated $4.14 billion globally. The team at Athletic Club Momento has joined forces with Angel City FC to give fans the opportunity to win the jerseys the Angel City players will wear on the pitch during the club’s away match against Southern California rival San Diego Wave FC on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Wave’s new home, Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
Auctions will begin at kick-off at 7 pm PT exclusively via the Momento Market app on iOS and Android, and end shortly after the final whistle. Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the Angel City Player 22 Future Program, which creates pathways for former NWSL players interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry.
“Angel City FC has been the talk of the football world since the club was announced in 2020, and we could not be more excited for ACFC to be the first US sports team that we collaborate with,” shared John Brennan, Founder & CEO of AC Momento. “The fact that they are facing off against their rivals in front of a NWSL record crowd of over 32,000 fans is just another example of how both of these Southern California clubs are pushing women’s football forward and shining yet another light on the explosive growth of women’s sports around the world. We hope that fans are excited about the opportunity to get their hands on a match-worn jersey from this historic fixture and team.”
Julie Uhrman, Angel City FC Co-Founder and President, added: “Our rivalry against San Diego Wave FC is shaping up to be one of the biggest rivalries in our sport. It’s only year one, but our players, fans, and community create an atmosphere that is to be marveled. It is incredibly exciting to team up with AC Momento just weeks after their launch with AC Milan, Atlético de Madrid, SL Benfica, and Sevilla FC to run the first auction for a women’s football team around this rivalry game. By leveraging the Momento Market app, I know our fans will appreciate this unique way to get their hands on a match-worn jersey from their favorite Angel City FC player. Not only will they be collecting a piece of history, but with each jersey sale, ten percent of the proceeds will benefit our Player 22 Fund. “
Every shirt on the Momento Market app will be represented by a digital Certificate of Authenticity (dCOA) featuring a high-resolution image of the associated shirt and information about the match in which it was worn. Each digital COA also features a unique ID number which also appears on the authentication label attached to each shirt. Traditionally, a Certificate of Authenticity consisted of a physical piece of paper that would accompany memorabilia. AC Momento believes that the digital Certificate of Authenticity (dCOA) improves the user experience so fans can manage their collection online and more easily share their new Momentos on social media with friends and followers.
AC Momento’s operations take place in secure warehouses throughout the US and Europe, where the shirts get authenticated, photographed, and protected alongside hundreds of millions of dollars worth of art. AC Momento acquires the match-worn shirts directly from their partner clubs’ dressing rooms, ensuring the source and various stages of custody are meticulously documented. If you win a shirt on Momento Market, the digital COA is immediately sent to your account, and then you can choose to have the physical shirt sent to your home straight from one of AC Momento’s warehouses after it has been authenticated and photographed, or leave it with them for secure storage.
Fans can download the Momento Market app on the App Store and the Google Play Store.
