Berge Scores Overtime Winner as Pats Beat ICE

Regina, Sask. – Parker Berge scored the overtime winner, as the Regina Pats defeated the Winnipeg ICE 3-2 at the Brandt Centre on Thursday.

Logan Linklater fed the puck into the slot, and Parker Berge ripped a shot past ICE goaltender Dawson Cowan for his first career overtime winner, as the Pats won their final pre-season home game, 3-2 to improve to 3-1 on the pre-season with one more game left.


Borya Valis (1G-1A) and Luke Bateman (2A) tallied two points, and Tye Spencer scored a power play goal. Koen MacInnes relieved Matthew Kieper and got the victory, stopping 12 of 12 in just over 32 minutes of ice-time.

THE GOALS

First Period

Pats 1-0 at 8:17 – Borya Valis (2) assisted by Luke Bateman and Ty Plaisier // With the Pats in control in the offensive zone, Plaisier sent a pass to Bateman at the right side where he shot a low wrister towards the ICE net which Valis neatly tipped past Keegan Maddocks to give the Pats a 1-0 lead.

ICE 1-1 at 18:57 – Zach Benson (2) assisted by Jaren Brinson // Benson received a long-distance pass from Brinson, broke in alone, and fired a bar down wrister over Matthew Kieper’s right shoulder.

Second Period

Pats 2-1 at 3:50- Tye Spencer (2) assisted by Borya Valis and Luke Bateman (PP) // As the Pats were working the puck around on the powerplay, Valis fed a cross-ice pass to Spencer who fired a one-timer low past Maddocks to give the Pats a 2-1 lead early in the second period.

ICE 2-2 at 8:38 – Zach Benson (3) unassisted // Benson broke in on a rush and ripped home a wrist shot past a screened Kieper to even the game up at 2-2.

Third Period

No goals.

Overtime

Pats 3-2 at 1:47- Parker Berge (1) assisted by Logan Linklater // Linklater won the battle for the puck along the end boards and fed a nice pass to a streaking Berge who buried it to give the Pats a 3-2 win.

Pats: Kieper (15 saves/17 shots in 29:46 min.), MacInnes (15 saves/15 shots in 32:01)

ICE: Maddocks (13 saves/15 shots in 28:38 min.), Cowan (9 saves/10 shots in 33:09)
