Three Unanswered Goals Lead to Bruins Win over Northeast

September 14, 2022 – North American Hockey League (NAHL)Austin Bruins News Release

BLAINE, MN – The 2022-23 Season is officially underway and the Bruins find themselves in the win column with a 3-1 victory over the Northeast Generals.

In the first game of the season for the Bruins, they would match up with the Northeast Generals for Game 1 of the annual NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota. Northeast would light the lamp first as Douglas Friberg would get his first of the season for the Generals on a blast from the point to beat Bruins net-minder, Ethan Robertson blocker side to give Northeast the early 1-0 lead. That lead would hold after the first twenty minutes of play as the Bruins would not be able to solve the puzzle of Northeast’s goalie Cullen DeYoung during the first period.

After giving up the early goal in the first period, it would be all Austin for the remainder of the game. The Bruins would find themselves on the Power Play at 7:09 of the second period, from their Walter Zacher would rip a shot past DeYoung to get his first of the season and tie the game up at one a piece. A little under three minutes later, one of the newest faces for the young Bruins squad, Jackson Rilei, would lift a highlight-reel backhanded shot over the blocker of DeYoung to give Austin a 2-1 lead. The offense for the Bruins would not stop there, however, as Matys Brassard would get a pass from his brother, Isaak, to beat DeYoung backdoor in the 3rd period and would make it 3-1 for the Bruins with 17:21 to play in the third. That score would hold on and the Bruins would take the matinée affair by the final of 3-1. Robertson would stop 23 of the 24 shots he would face to pick up his first win of the 2022-23 campaign.

Up next, the Bruins take on the Springfield Jr. Blue tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 5:15 pm CST.
