Republic FC Blanks Loudoun United FC
September 11, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento, Calif. – Republic FC closed out a 3-game stretch in 10 days – including Wednesday’s Open Cup Final – with a victory on Saturday night, dominating Loudoun United FC at home for a clean sheet and crucial three points in the Western Conference table.
Pressure from Sacramento came early and never wavered as the club was relentless in the attacking third all night long. The first half alone saw Mark Briggs’ men tally 12 attempts at goal, finishing with 23 on the night. The club was rewarded for their persistence after the break as Deshorn Brown and Jack Gurr each found net for the first time in Old Glory Red, followed by Dan Casey and Luther Archimede.
Three of Sacramento’s first-half attempts were denied by the woodwork. Emil Cuello nearly opened the scoring with a spectacular strike from distance in the 21st minute – only for his 60 yard attempt to find the crossbar. Moments later, Conor Donovan put a header off the right post on a set piece, and Deshorn Brown’s 32nd minute attempt met the same fate.
Sacramento’s continued aggression was rewarded with a third score after the hour mark. Dan Casey punched in his second goal of the season on the follow up after Loudoun’s keeper couldn’t corral a loose rebound.
Eleven different field players tallied at least one scoring attempt for the match. Deshorn Brown and Emil Cuello led the way, with the former being lifted in the 66th minute for Luther Archimede following the club’s third goal of the night.
Republic FC takes the pitch again next Sunday from Heart Health Park on Youth Soccer Day, where the club will celebrate the regions players at all levels of the game. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m., and the match will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. Tickets for the contest are available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets.
