Greenville began Friday’s match scattered and detached on the wide pitch at Memorial Stadium. The team’s usual chemistry was undetectable within the offense as they looked to create chances. Twenty-three minutes into the match, Greenville’s Nico Brown conceded a foul in the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty kick for Charlotte and a 1-0 lead for the home side. The playing surface also seemed to cause problems for Greenville, as many players lost their footing and struggled to connect passes in the new environment. Greenville entered the locker room down 1-0 at the half.

Five minutes into the second half, a lengthy throw from Jacob Labovitz bounced around in the Charlotte box long enough for captain, Brandon Fricke to kick the deflected ball into the net. With the score even, Greenville attempted to move ahead without much success. The contest seemed destined for a draw until five minutes left in regular time, as Charlotte went up for a header off their lone corner kick and came down with a go-ahead goal. Unable to come together for another equalizing goal, Greenville fell short to Charlotte 2-1.

Now winless in its last three matches, the Triumph will look to rebound on the road next week against defending champion-Union Omaha on Saturday, September 17th at 8:00 PM.
