IronPigs Defeat WooSox 9-2

September 9, 2022 – International League (IL)Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

(Allentown, Pa) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (71-62) got a strong performance from their lineup on Friday evening as they defeated the Worcester Red Sox (69-64) 9-2. The IronPigs logged 12 hits and were 8-for-17 with runners in scoring position.


Zach Eflin pitched two innings in a Good Shepherd Rehabilitation start for Lehigh Valley. He struck out three batters and only gave up one hit – a home run to Ryan Fitzgerald in the top of the second inning. The IronPigs answered with two runs against Chris Murphy (3-5) in the bottom of the third inning. Yairo Munoz and Darick Hall hit back-to-back RBI doubles.

Bobby Dalbec hit a sacrifice fly against Bubby Rossman that scored Kole Cottam and tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning. Munoz answered with a go-ahead RBI single against Murphy in the bottom of the fifth inning. Johan Camargo hit an RBI single against Murphy in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Lehigh Valley a 4-2 lead.

The IronPigs scored five runs against Chase Shugart in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 9-2 lead. Hall scored on a fielder’s choice and Jorge Bonifacio hit an RBI single that scored Dustin Peterson. Camargo added an RBI single, while Scott Kingery hit a two-run single.

Jonathan Hennigan (4-3) earned the win for Lehigh Valley. He issued one walk in 2/3 of an inning pitched. Brian Marconi pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Nick Duron added 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and Chris Devenski pitched a shutout inning to close out the game.

The IronPigs and WooSox play again on Saturday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
