Preview: Rangers Host Barrie Friday at the Aud

Scouting the Rangers:

In Monday’s contest Adam Zidlicky raised his pre-season goal tally to 3 after scoring twice in Ayr. The second year forward will look to make an even bigger impact this season after posting a respectable 13 points (6G, 7A) in 62 games last season.


Friday also marks the first contest for the Rangers’ new bench-boss, Chris Dennis, against his former team just a season-ago. Dennis was the Associate Coach for the Colts for the 2021-22 campaign before being announced as the Rangers’ new Head Coach on June 28th, 2022.

The Rangers will be without captain and NHL-signed prospect Francesco Pinelli who is currently in Los Angeles competing in the Kings’ Development Camp.

Scouting the Colts:

Two of the Colts’ top skaters to watch Brandt Clarke is to watch on the Colts as the Los Angeles Kings first round pick (8th Overall) in 2021 averaged more than a point per game recording 59 points (11G 48A) in 55 games played. Forward Declan McDonnell (Tampa Bay) lead the colts in goals last season finding the back of the net 28 times and recording 62 points in 63 games.

Ethan Cardwell (San Jose Sharks), Hunter Haight (Minnesota Wild), Evan Vierling (New York Rangers), and Artur Cholach (Las Vegas Golden Knights) round out the rest of the NHL Draft picks on the Colts roster.

Head-to-Head:

In last year’s 2021 pre-season, Kitchener won the first game 5-2 on home-ice before dropping a shootout decision 5-4 in Barrie the following weekend. In the last three regular seasons, the Rangers are an impressive 5-1-0-0 against the Colts and are 2-1-0-0 on home-ice at The Aud.

Next Up:

The Rangers will face the Colts in Barrie tomorrow. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at Sadlon Arena. Saturday’s road contest will be televised throughout Kitchener and the Waterloo Region on Rogers TV, cable channel 20, and across the province of Ontario on the Super Sports Pak, channel 463 for cable subscribers.

The East Avenue Blue will finish their pre-season home schedule Saturday, September 24th when the club hosts the Mississauga Steelheads at The Aud at 4:00 p.m.

Opening Night:

Kitchener is welcoming Rangers Nation back to The Aud for the 60th anniversary. The Rangers open the 2022-23 season against the Sarnia Sting on Friday, September 30th at 7:30 p.m. Individual game tickets will go on sale Tuesday, September 6th for $25 and are available at KitchenerRangers.com.
