ALLENTOWN, P.A. – The Worcester Red Sox (69-63) split a doubleheader with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (70-62) on Thursday, a 5-1 loss in game one and a 9-1 win in game two at Coca-Cola Park.

In his fourth game of September and 44th of the season, Johan Mieses powered the WooSox to a game two victory. In the third, RBI walks from Jarren Duran and Christin Stewart put the road team up 2-0 and set up a bases-loaded situation for Mieses. He saw two pitches, then ripped the third to left for a grand slam.

Later in the inning, a Kole Cottam double made it 7-0, giving Cottam his first Triple-A RBI.

In the fourth, Mieses came through with another run-scoring hit, an RBI double to right-center to extend Worcester’s lead to 8-0. In 45 games with the WooSox, the 27-year-old has 11 doubles, eight home runs and 26 RBI. Two innings later, Nick Sogard came through with sac-fly to make it 9-1.

On the mound, Brian Keller delivered another strong start, tossing six innings of one-run ball. The right-hander allowed two hits and one walk, striking out four.

Since the beginning of June, Keller has posted a 2.79 ERA (21 ER in 69.1 IP) with 76 strikeouts, and with the victory, improves to 5-5.

Frank German finished off the victory with a scoreless inning, the 15th runless outing in his last 18 appearances.

In game one, a three-run fourth inning from Lehigh Valley was the difference. Worcester starter Victor Santos allowed the first two batters to reach, then gave up a go-ahead RBI single by former WooSox Yairo Muñoz. Darick Hall followed with a three-run home run to right to make it 4-0 IronPigs.

Santos took the loss, finishing the day with the following line: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.

Jarren Duran crushed a solo homer to right in the sixth, his second Triple-A home run since the start of September.

After a runless fifth from Jake Thompson, Lehigh Valley scored in the sixth inning on a Johan Camargo homer off Durbin Feltman, the final run in a 5-1 IronPigs victory.

In his second and third games with the WooSox, Bobby Dalbec went 2-for-6 with a walk and an RBI.

Worcester is now 1-2-4 in its doubleheader slate this season.
