Rangers Face Guelph in Ayr for Holiday Matinee Monday

Ayr, Ont. – After posting a 6-2 victory over the Niagara IceDogs in the Rangers’ pre-season opener Sunday, Kitchener will face-off against the Guelph Storm Monday in a neutral-site game in Ayr at the North Dumfries Community Centre. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m for the Labour Day matinee match-up. There will be no broadcast coverage or live stream options available for the pre-season contest.

Monday marks a road contest for the Rangers as the Ayr Centennials are the Junior B affiliate of the Guelph Storm, playing in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). There will be a pregame ceremony to honour the life of Peterborough Petes’ prospect Eli Palfreyman after his passing at just 20 years of age Tuesday in a pre-season tournament game. The Cambridge, Ont., native was captain of the Centennials. Rangers’ Joseph Serpa, also a Cambridge native, will change his jersey number to 17 Sunday to honour his long-time friend.

Scouting the Rangers:

In the pre-season opener yesterday, Carson Rehkopf recorded three points (2G, 1), Kitchener-native Matthew Sop tallied once and both Reid Valade and Trent Swich scored once and added an assist.

Ties to Monday’s community game include Joseph Serpa (Cambridge) and Matthew Sop (Kitchener). Jack Harper is a native of Guelph and was acquired in a trade with the Storm last season.

Scouting the Storm:

Second year forward Jake Karabela (Washington) recorded 45 points (12G 33A) in 68 games a season ago, Sasha Pastujov (Anaheim) notched 76 points and a 1.17 points per game tally. Defenceman Cam Allen who was the third-overall pick in last year’s 2021 OHL Entry Draft and recorded 37 points (13G 24A) in 65 games. Danny Zhilkin (Winnipeg), Mattew Poitras (Boston) and Michael Buchinger (St. Louis) are other NHL Draft picks on the Storm roster.

Head-to-Head:

Last season, Kitchener had the upper-hand posting a 5-4-1-0 record over Guelph. The Rangers are 11-6-1-0 in the past two campaigns after recording an impressive a 6-2-0-0 record against Guelph in the 2019-20 season.

Ticket Information:

Tickets will be sold on location at the North Dumfries Community Complex in Ayr, Ontario. General admission tickets are limited and available for $12 on a first come-first-first-served basis.
