Lights FC Travels to Florida for the First Time in Franchise History

September 3, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Las Vegas Lights FC News Release

MATCH SUMMARY:

Lights FC made their first trip to the Sunshine State to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Rowdies opened the score in the 24th minute while Las Vegas was playing a man down due to Morten Bjorshol being injured. Jordan Scarlett took a shot from outside the box that ended in the back of the net.

A turnover from Lights FC in Tampa’s final third left the Rowdies in perfect position to extend their lead to 2-0 before halftime, which they did with a perfectly positioned shot by Leo Fernandez, that goalkeeper Tomas Romero didn’t have a chance to stop.

Despite Cal Jennings scoring his ninth goal of the 2022 season in the second half, it wasn’t enough for the Lights who conceded four times in the final 45 minutes of the match and return home after a 6-1 defeat.

Las Vegas is still above the playoff line in USL Championship’s Western Conference with 37 points, which has the team sitting in seventh place (final postseason spot).
