SeaWolves Fall to Baysox on Saturday Afternoon

The Erie SeaWolves yielded all seven runs in the later innings and fell 7-2 to the Bowie Baysox at UPMC Park on Saturday.

Erie opened the scoring in the third. Bryant Packard crushed his first Double-A homer off of Chayce McDermott to give the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead.


Bowie took the lead in the sixth. Darell Hernaiz reached on an error from Trei Cruz and moved to second on an error from Dane Myers. Connor Norby went to first on a hit by pitch. Coby Mayo laid down a bunt single against Billy Lescher. Hudson Haskin drove in a pair with a two-run single. Cody Roberts lifted a sac fly to put the Baysox on top, 3-1.

Quincy Nieporte cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth. He mashed his 30th homer of the year off of Jake Prizina.

Bowie added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Zach Watson was hit by a pitch by Yaya Chentouf. Hernaiz then launched his first home run in Double-A to pull the Baysox ahead, 5-2.

Bowie tacked on a couple of runs in the ninth. Dario Gardea issued a walk to Toby Welk and Watson moved Welk to third with a double. Hernaiz brought home both baserunners with a single to make it a 7-2 game.

McDermott (1-1) earned the win. He tossed five innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking two, and striking out six.

Flores (5-3) was tagged with the loss. He threw five innings, gave up two runs, one earned on one hit, walking two, hitting a batter, and striking out seven.

Clayton McGinness hurled two shutout innings for his fourth save and struck out two batters.

The Erie offense went 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base. The last eight SeaWolves hitters were retired in order.
