September 3, 2022 – International League (IL)Buffalo Bisons News Release

WORCESTER, MA – The Buffalo Bisons were held to just three hits in their 9-0 loss to the Worcester Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at Polar Park.

L.J. Talley collected the first of the game for Buffalo in the top of the third inning off of Worcester starter Chase Shugart. The righty worked the first four innings for the WooSox but did not qualify for the victory. Shugart allowed a pair of hits and struck out three.

The Herd’s second hit off of Shugart came off the bat of Vinny Capra in the top of the fourth. Capra also reached base on a walk three innings later. It was the first free pass issued by Worcester in the game, and the bullpen would allow two total walks in the win.

Worcester’s first run of the game was scored on a solo home run to right field by Enmanuel Valdez in the bottom of the fourth. The homer came off of Nick Allgeyer, who came in relief of Shaun Anderson. Allgeyer was charged with the loss in his 2.1 innings of work, allowing just one run on the solo homer.

Anderson pitched 2.2 innings in the start for Buffalo. He walked one and struck out three while giving up one base hit. In total, the Bisons used seven pitchers in the loss.

Otto Lopez hit safely for the third game in a row with an infield base hit in the top of the sixth inning. It would be the last hit of the game for Buffalo.

The WooSox extended the lead to 3-0 with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Fitzgerald one inning later extended the lead to 4-0 through seven.

Fitzgerald would cap a five-run bottom of the eighth with a two-run double to right field, giving the infielder a total of 67 RBIs on the season. Jarren Duran’s lone hit of the game also produced a pair of runs in the frame, while a fielder’s choice off the bat of Pedro Castellanos accounted for the other run in the inning.

Durbin Feltman was credited with the win. The righty worked a pair of scoreless innings out of the Worcester bullpen, giving up one hit and striking out four.

With the win, the WooSox have won the season series by taking 13 of the 23 overall meetings with the Bisons this season. Buffalo will try and end the road trip with a win starting at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
