Lennox Shines Despite 1-0 Defeat Against Rangers

Kitchener, Ont. – The Saginaw Spirit (8-6-1-0) started their road trip with a 1-0 loss to the Kitchener Rangers (5-7-0-0) at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, Ontario Saturday night.
New York Islanders 3rd round draft pick pick Tristan Lennox shined in this game, allowing only one goal on 21 shots.
The game opened with Tristan Lennox making back-to-back stops on a long possession from Kitchener two minutes in.
Matyas Sapovaliv later stole the puck in front of Marco Costantini for a shot but was stopped to keep Saginaw off the board.
The Rangers got a chance to use their powerplay after Dean Loukus took a high sticking penalty at 7:21 in the opening period. Kitchener was unable to score on the chance.
Lennox made several saves 12 minutes in, keeping the Rangers off the board.
The Spirit went down a man when Ian Phillips was called for holding at 16:29 in the period. Kitchener was unable to score on the chance.
At the end of the first period, the game was scoreless, and the Rangers led shots, 9-7.
The second period started with renewed pressure from Kitchener as they had several long possessions in the opening minutes.
Lennox made several saves up close seven minutes into the middle period, keeping the Rangers off the board.
The Spirit applied some pressure nine minutes in when they had a two-minute possession and took several shots.
The Rangers went on the man-advantage after Sebastien Gervais took a high sticking penalty at 9:23 in the middle period. Theo Hill had a shorthanded breakaway but was stopped by Costantini. Saginaw killed the penalty
Saginaw took a cross checking penalty at 17:04 in the period, giving the Rangers another man-advantage. The Spirit successfully killed the powerplay before the period ended.
At the end of the second period, neither team was able to score, and Kitchener led in shots, 16-14.
The third period commenced with both teams finding scoring chances but no success.
Saginaw got a chance to try out their powerplay after Filip Mesar took a slashing penalty at 3:31 in the final period. Despite several shots, Saginaw was unable to convert on the chance.
Josh Bloom broke through the Ranger’s defense to take a shot but was stopped by Costantini halfway through the third period.
The Spirit got another man-advantage after Cameron Mercer was called for high sticking at 9:50 in the final frame. Saginaw took several shots, but no goals came.
Lennox was tested but stood strong 14 minutes in as he made multiple saves to keep Kitchener off the board.
Roberto Mancini was called for an interference penalty at 13:27 in the final frame, giving the Rangers another powerplay chance. Kitchener did not score on the opportunity.
Kitchener scored the lone goal of the game at 15:38 in the third period. Roman Schmidt scored from the point after Carson Rehkopf passed to him from behind the net. Adam Zidlicky earned an assist after getting the puck to Rehkopf.
Tristan Lennox got the start for Saginaw, making 20 saves on 21 shots. Marco Costantini secured a shutout, making 18 saves on 18 shots.
Saginaw pulled Lennox with just under three minutes to play in the third frame. No goals were scored, and the Spirit lose the game with a final score of 1-0. The Spirit fall to 8-6-1-0 on the season.
Saginaw’s next game is Sunday, November 6th, as they take on the Oshawa Generals at the Tribune Communities Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. Puck drop is at 6:05 p.m.

Veterans and active military can receive two upper-level tickets and the Spirit will be wearing military-themed jerseys for the game. The team will be auctioning off the jerseys after the game, and proceeds will go to the Bay City Elks #88 Veterans Program.
