Preview: November 3 vs. Moncton Wildcats

November 4, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders got back in the win column last night, and will have ample opportunity to keep the momentum rolling as they face the Moncton Wildcats tonight at the Eastlink Centre.

The young Islanders are facing their fair share of adversity early this season, and face their next challenge tonight at home against the defending Memorial Cup Champion Saint John Sea Dogs.

Charlottetown (6-7-1-0) put it’s offense on full display last night, lighting the Saint John Sea Dogs up with a 7-3 victory. Jakub Brabenec and Giovanni Morneau each had three-point nights while Alexandre Tessier added two assists on his own enroute to a first-star performance. Call-up Ross Campbell picked up his first career QMJHL point with an assist on Peter Repčík’s second goal as an Islander, while Raine Nadeau made an instant impact with a big hit on his first shift and a primary assist on Lucas Romeo’s 7th goal of the season.

“We’re really, really proud of this group. It was a tough road trip, particularly at the end in Rimouski. We were beat up, tired, and it was a long bus ride home. To bounce back today with our best game of the year shows you a lot about the character in that room.” Said Islanders head coach Jim Hulton on the victory.

Romeo continued a hot streak with his fourth straight game with a point. His seven goals on the season now ties him with Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Bill Zonnon for first among rookies in goals. The big winger from Oakville, Ontario is also sixth among all rookies with 8 total points.

At the other end of the ice, the Wildcats (8-3-0-1) have enjoyed great success early this season, sitting just two points behind the Maritime Division-leading Halifax Mooseheads in the standings. Moncton has gone an incredible eight games without a regulation loss and have been getting steady contributions from all areas of the lineup.

Two standouts for Moncton continue to be forward Yoan Loshing and defenseman Etienne Morin. Despite battling injuries during his first two QMJHL seasons, Loshing is emerging as a threat each time he steps on the ice with his combination of offensive vision and deadly speed. Loshing currently leads the Wildcats with 16 points in 11 games played.

Morin, meanwhile, continues to see his name climb the NHL Draft ranks early this season. Rated a B-level prospect by NHL Central Scouting, Morin is just behind Loshing in the team point race, accumulating 15 points in 12 games.

This will be the second time that the Isles and Cats have met this season, with Moncton sneaking away with a 3-2 overtime victory after the Islanders battled back from a two-goal deficit in the first period.

You can still get tickets for tonight’s game by visiting the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online. Tonight is the first ever Student and Teacher night at the Eastlink Centre; tickets for both students AND teachers are just $4, while all 19+ beverages are also just $4!
