Spirit Announce 2022 Pre-Season Roster; Prepare for Hamilton, Erie this Weekend

September 3, 2022 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL)Saginaw Spirit News Release

Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit announced Saturday (Sept. 3) the 28-man, pre-season roster that will take to the ice this weekend to face the defending OHL Champion Hamilton Bulldogs and the Erie Otters in Erie, PA.

Of the 28 players on the roster, 21 are returning from the 2021-22 season including Davis “T-Bone” Codd who is fully healthy after missing the final four months of the season due to injury. Also back from injury is overage goaltender and New York Islanders prospect Tristan Lennox, who missed significant time last season.

The new crop of Spirit includes first overall draft pick in 2022 Michael Misa, who’s exceptional status has granted him admission in to the Ontario Hockey League one year early as a 15-year-old. Also on the preseason roster is Saginaw’s second first round pick in 2022, Zayne Parekh, who made an early impression at both prospect camp and main camp with his smooth hands and effortless skating ability. David Brown joins the Spirit this season, signing his Standard Player Agreement on Friday morning. The seventh-round pick 2021 stole the show at main camp, leading the way in scoring with four goals and one assist in the two Blue-White Scrimmage games.

The Spirit open the 2022 Pre-season against the defending OHL Champion Hamilton Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at a neutral site game at Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, PA. The puck drops at 2:00 p.m. ET.

It has been 910 days since the Spirit played an Eastern Conference opponent due to the global pandemic and ironically enough that opponent was the Hamilton Bulldogs on March 7, 2020, an 8-6 road victory for the Spirit.

Saginaw wraps up the road weekend with a 2:00 p.m. ET matinee with the hosting Erie Otters on Sunday. The Spirit and the Otters are both hungry for better results this season, as the two teams failed to make the playoffs during the 2021-22 campaign. The Spirit finished 6-5-1-0 against the Otters last year and posted a 3-2-1-0 mark at Erie Insurance Arena.

Spirit fans looking to follow along on all the action can stream the games at camerie.org or follow our social media channels for live updates throughout the games.

The Spirit will play six exhibition games this year with two of them played in the Great Lakes Bay Region. The Spirit will host the Soo Greyhounds on Friday, September 9th at Midland Civic Arena in Midland, Michigan. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at Saginaw Spirit Store at 6321 State Street or charge by phone at (989) 497-7747.

Saginaw will also play a pre-season at The Dow Event Center on Friday, September 23rd against the Flint Firebirds at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for that game are available at The Dow Event Center Box Office, Saginaw Spirit Store, or online at Ticketmaster.
