Raiders Snap Losing Streak With Nail Biting 5-4 Win Over Americans

November 2, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Prince Albert Raiders News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders picked up their fourth win of the season on Tuesday night, beating the Tri-City Americans 5-4 at the Art Hauser Centre. The Raiders saw a 4-0 lead disappear in the second period, but a third period goal by Landon Kosior stood up as the winner, as Prince Albert put the brakes on a three-game slide.

Already down to just nine forwards to start the game with the absence of Evan Herman, Sloan Stanick, Ryder Ricthie, and Cole Peardon, that number took another hit in the first period. After a dirty hit from a Tri-City player developed a scrum in the corner, two fights broke out. Carter Anderson fought Lukas Dragicevic, while Zach Wilson dropped the mitts with Andrew Fan. Wilson and Fan were both handed five for fighting and a game misconduct for being involved in the second fight, putting Prince Albert’s forward number down to eight, with Seth Tansem playing the ninth forward spot playing up from defence.

From there, the Raiders dominated the first period, scoring three goals in a three-minute span. Niall Crocker opened the scoring with his second goal of the season with 4:40 to go, while Keaton Sorensen and Landon Kosior scored on separate powerplays late in the first period to go up 3-0 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Nolan Allan scored on a five on three-man advantage for Prince Albert 4:21 into the middle frame to make it a 4-0 lead, but Tri-City stormed back from there. Four unanswered goals on 18 second period shots brought the Americans back into a 4-4 tie. Ethan Ernst started the comeback 5:08 into the frame, while Jake Sloan scored 50 second later to make it 4-2. Midway through the second, Parker Bell and Drew Freer scored less than four minutes apart, tying things up. After a strong first period and an early goal in the second, the Raiders were shell shocked heading into a 4-4 tie game going into the third and final regulation frame.

Just one goal was scored in the third period, and it was the biggest one of the game for the Raiders. On the man advantage, Kosior scored the go-ahead goal just 1:09 into the final frame. His second goal and second powerplay goal of the contest proved to be the difference, as Prince Albert held onto that 5-4 win right to the final buzzer.

After he was peppered in the second period, Tikhon Chaika put in a 25 save performance in the win, while Tomas Suchanek stopped 22 shots on 27 shots in goal for the Americans.

The win improves Prince Albert’s record to 4-9-0-2 on the season, and they’ll look to keep things rolling on Friday night when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors.
