2022 Training Camp: Day 1 Recap

September 2, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats held their first scrimmages of their 2022 Training Camp, as Team White and Team Red came away with victories on Friday at the Brandt Centre.

Connor Bedard led the way in the opening game with two goals, as Team White defeated Team Blue 6-4. Wyatt Stinton scored four goals for Team Red as they took down Team Blue 7-4.


Scrimmage 1: Team White 6, Team Blue 4

THE GOALS

First Half

Team Blue 1-0 at 4:05 – Borya Valis (1) // Got in alone on Kieper and beat him low.

Team Blue 2-0 at 5:11 – Jakob Brook (1) // Fired a shot that beat Kieper bar down glove side.

Team White 2-1 at 9:58 – Connor Bedard (1) // On a partial two-on-one with Kelsen Podworny, Bedard was given a clean look and beat Pyne over his glove.

Team White 2-2 at 16:26 – Layton Feist (1) // On an odd-man rush with Alexander Suzdalev, Feist finished off a pretty tic-tac-toe goal to tie the contest up at a pair.

Team White 2-3 at 17:40 – Brayden Barnett (1) // During a scramble in front of team Blues’ net Barnett found the loose puck and buried the puck to give team White their first lead of the game.

Second Half

Team White 2-4 at 1:15 – Ethan King (1) // King’s long-distance shot got through a crowd and beat Fontaine high over his outstretched trapper.

Team Blue 3-4 at 9:23 – Zane Rowan (1) // Rowan got on the board and stopped Team White’s momentum with his first of training camp to pull Team Blue back to within a marker.

Team White 3-5 at 13:03 – Ethan King (2) // Restored Team White’s tw0-goal lead with his second goal of the opening scrimmage.

Team Blue 4-5 at 23:02 – Cole Temple (1) // Fresh off a faceoff win in the offensive zone, Temple connected with his first goal of the scrimmage to get Team Blue back to within one.

Team White 4-6 at 23:31 – Connor Bedard (2) // Bedard ripped home his second of the scrimmage to restore the two-goal lead for Team White.

Scrimmage 2: Team Red 7, Team Blue 4

First Half

Team Red 1-0 at 56 seconds – Kolten Bridgeman (1) // Bridgeman’s long-distance wrist shot beat Pyne glove side to give Team Red an early 1-0 lead.

Team Red 2-0 at 4:07 – Wyatt Stinton (1) // Stinton tapped in a rebound from in close.

Team Blue 2-1 at 8:45 – Adam McNutt (1) // McNutt joined the rush and took a quick shot that went off Sim’s stick and in.

Team Red 3-1 at 8:58 – Wyatt Stinton (2) // Stinton scored his second goal of the scrimmage after the defender fell and he promptly potted the marker.

Team Red 4-1 at 22:12 – Easton Armstrong (1) // Armstrong notched his first goal of training camp after he tipped in an Aaron Krestanovich point shot.

Second Half

Team Blue 4-2 at 24 seconds – Parker Berge (1) // Berge’s shot from the line got Team Blue back to within a pair.

Team Red 5-2 at 3:28 – Wyatt Stinton (3) // Stinton completed the hat-trick to restore Team Red’s three-goal advantage.

Team Blue 5-3 at 4:30 – Cole Dubinsky (1) // Dubinsky’s first of training camp got Team Blue back to within two goals.

Team Red 6-3 at 7:34 – Wyatt Stinton (4) // Stinton added to Team Red’s lead with his fourth of the game after his shot went bar and in.

Team Red 7-3 at 20:00 – Easton Armstrong (2) // From behind the net Armstrong banked on his second of the night off the defender and in.

Team Blue 7-4 at 22:38 – Cole Dubinsky (2) // Dubinsky skated around the offensive zone and had an opportunity for a shot which he took advantage of by sniping his second of the game to round out the scoring.
