Eagles Dropped by Remparts to Finish Road Trip

A five goal second period paced the Quebec Remparts to a 9-2 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on Saturday night in Quebec City.
It was a tentative start to the game for both sides, but the breakthrough came for the home team after the halfway mark of the period. Oliver Satny was able to turn aside Nathan Gaucher, but James Malatesta pounced on the rebound and put the Remparts up 1-0. After the Remparts killed off a too many men on the ice penalty, they added to the lead- the play began when trailing forward Zachary Bolduc flipped a shot in on Santy, and Kassim Gaudet pushed it over the goal line in the ensuing scramble- the period finished 2-0 for Quebec.
Much like the prior night in Sherbrooke, a close game after one period came undone in the second stanza. Zachary Marquis-Laflamme added to the Remparts lead early in the period tipping a point shot by Oliver Satny. The Eagles would cut the margin again, courtesy of a beautiful individual effort from Zachary Gravel who stripped Samuel Lachance of the puck and swooped around the crease to beat Philippe Cloutier.
The Remparts wouldn’t waste time building the lead back up- Zachary Bolduc converted a pass at the side of the net from Pier-Olivier Roy to make it 4-1, and then Charles Truchon jumped into the play to finish a pass from James Malatesta to make it 5-1. Bolduc scored his second of the night on a rebound, spelling the end of the night for Oliver Satny.
It wasn’t just goals on the scoresheet as there were fireworks when Eagles defenseman Xavier Daigle was given a minor for roughing, and Lachance raced onto the scene and earned himself a major for high sticking. Cape Breton’s Angelo Fullerton also was given a minor penalty, giving the Remparts a two minute four on three power play, to be followed by an Eagles man advantage at the conclusion of the minor penalties.
Bolduc took advantage of the open ice, welcoming Nicolas Ruccia to the game and completing his hat trick. The Eagles were unable to score on their ensuing power play, but did get on the board late when Julien Hébert tipped a point shot from Conor Shortall. It was Hébert’s first as an Eagle.
The third period belonged to James Malatesta, who joined Bolduc in the hat trick club after a pair of final frame goals, the second coming on the power play.
Cloutier picked up the win, stopping 25 of 27 shots. Satny took the loss, stopping 23 of 29 shots while Ruccia stopped 21 of 24 in relief.
