Stéphane Waite joins the QMJHL as goaltending consultant
October 28, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
Montreal, QC – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the addition of Stéphane Waite to its hockey operations as a goaltending consultant. The Sherbrooke native joins Maxime Ouellet, who has been working with the League for the past three seasons.
“Stéphane’s arrival will add a resource specifically dedicated to our goaltending coaches,” said Assistant Commissioner Martin Lavallée. “Whether as a mentor or advisor, Stéphane will be able to put his vast experience as a goalie coach to good use. Through various one-on-one meetings (virtual or in person) and group conferences, Stéphane will be able to specifically discuss the goaltending coach’s job, annual planning, goaltender evaluation, as well as the use of video and advanced stats.”
The 56-year-old has more than 40 years of experience as a goalie coach. He spent 12 years in Quebec’s U18 AAA League and 13 years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, before working in the National Hockey League for 18 seasons. He raised the Stanley Cup twice with the Chicago Blackhawks, in 2010 and 2013, before kicking off an eight-year stint with the Montreal Canadiens.
“I am very excited to join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as an advisor to the great goaltending coaches it has across the league,” said Waite. “I am impatient to share my knowledge to aid in the support and development of our goaltenders.”
