On the Rebound

Last weekend marked the Winterhawks’ first loss of the 2022-23 campaign, a disappointing 7-3 result against the Tri-City Americans. With a pair of back-to-back games against playoff-caliber competition in Kelowna on the docket this weekend, it’s an opportunity to get back to the habits that launched a 7-0-0 start to Portland’s season.

On a positive note, several Winterhawks continued their strong play despite the defeat last week. Jack O’Brien extended his career-best point streak to five games with an assist on Saturday and now boasts one goal and nine assists on the year, Gabe Klassen returned from injury to carry on his remarkable scoring streak to start the year, lighting the lamp for the eighth time in just four games played this season and Robbie Fromm-Delorme picked up an assist on Saturday, boosting his team-high points total to five goals and seven helpers for 12 points this season.

Look for those players to lead the way as the Hawks try to get back in the win column tonight.

Talent Show

What a show we have before us tonight! Five players between the two clubs were named to this week’s NHL Central Scouting “Preliminary Players to Watch” list ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft, including Portland’s Luca Cagnoni, Carter Sotheran and Jan Špunar, and Kelowna’s Andrew Cristall and Caden Price.

Cagnoni, Cristall and Price were granted “B” ratings, signifying a projected second- or third-round selection, though all three players could easily end up as first-round talents. Sotheran and Špunar, each playing their first season in the WHL, were listed as “C” ratings (fourth-round or later) but both boast the ability to climb the ranks as well.

With such a wealth of skill on the ice tonight, you’re in for a real treat, Hawks fans!

New Sights to “C”

They debuted their new captain’s letters in Kennewick last week, but tonight marks the first time captain Gabe Klassen and alternates Kyle Chyzowski, Robbie Fromm-Delorme and Jack O’Brien will sport their new sweater letters on home ice this season.

A cool moment made even better with their families in town for Parents’ Weekend – be sure to give the boys a cheer when you see them during warmups!
