October 26, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. – USL League One announced its 2022 USL League One All-League Teams on Wednesday, honoring its leading performers from this year’s regular-season campaign. Defender Jake Dengler, midfielder Gabriel Cabral and forward Kazaiah Sterling were named to USL League One’s All-League Second Team.
In his first year at the club, Dengler featured in 2,699 minutes of the regular season, only missing a minute due to injury. Dengler also scored his first professional goal this season against Forward Madison on June 19. Dengler led the team in clearances (145), and Aerial Duels won (84). The Baltimore native helped the defensive unit secure nine clean sheets throughout the season, tying its record for most clean sheets in a season from 2019.
Cabral enjoyed massive success on and off the field in his first year as a professional. After being named the third-ever captain for Tormenta FC this season, Cabral led the team to its highest ever finish in club history and captained South Georgia through the final half of the regular season. Cabral finishes the season with the second most minutes played in an intense and productive season. Cabral was able to record the most passes and was one of the most productive players on the pitch when creating chances.
Sterling recorded a team-high 13 goals, finishing the league as the third-highest scorer. Sterling also recorded four assists throughout the season and finished the season recording a goal every 114th minute.
This season, Sterling became only the second player in club history to score a hat trick for the League One side, with Azaad Liadi scoring the first in 2021. Sterling also set another record, breaking the professional team’s single-season goal-scoring record. With 13 goals in the regular season, he surpassed Marco Micaletto’s 11 goals from the 2021 season.
