Minnesota United Names Amos Magee as Vice President of Youth Development

October 26, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)Minnesota United FC News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – Minnesota United announced today that Amos Magee, formerly Director of Player Personnel, will now oversee the entire MNUFC Youth Development Program as the Vice President of Youth Development.

In his new role, Magee will manage the coaching staff, oversee the Academy and develop the infrastructure of the Pro Player Pathway-a path for players to move from youth soccer to the Academy, MNUFC2, and the first team. He will foster collaborative relationships throughout the Minnesota youth soccer community, with the goal of growing membership and assisting with elite player development.

“We are excited for Amos Magee to move into this role and continue our efforts to enhance our Youth Development Program and strengthen our commitment to all soccer players in Minnesota,” said MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer Manny Lagos. “He brings with him both a deep connection to the Minnesota soccer community and a strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of youth soccer in our state, which will allow him to help develop our athletes into professional players while continuing to grow the game at all levels.”

Saint Paul native Magee has been with Minnesota United since 2016. In his previous role as Director of Player Personnel, Magee worked closely with Technical Director Mark Watson in developing the Loons’ sporting vision as it pertains to strategic growth and player recruitment. Additionally, Magee helped build the analytics department, scouted players from across the globe and worked with the coaching staff to construct a competitive roster representing the club’s technical vision and community values.

“I’m very excited to reignite my life-long passion for youth soccer development in Minnesota,” said Magee. “Minnesota has always produced good soccer players. With renewed interest and focus, we can do an even better job of developing top-level players. The growth of both MLS and MLS NEXT makes Minnesota United ideally situated to partner with the many excellent clubs and organizations in our state to not only grow elite soccer, but player participation and enjoyment as well. I’m thrilled to help lead this effort.”

Noel Quinn will continue as the YDP’s Director of Youth Development, focusing on actively engaging with the diverse youth soccer communities in Minnesota with the goal of creating a continuous and lasting connection between MNUFC and youth soccer at all levels across the state. In addition, Quinn will continue to be responsible for the oversight of youth development and Academy operations and will be focused on strengthening the capabilities necessary to support the growth of all youth programming.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Noel-we share a common vision that every player that comes through our Academy will leave a better soccer player, and more importantly, a better person,” added Magee. “They should feel like a lifelong member of the Minnesota United family, sharing a collective vision of competition, inclusivity and success.”

Magee played high school soccer at Saint Paul Academy, and college soccer at Wesleyan University, where he is still the school’s all-time leading scorer. He spent most of his professional career with the Minnesota Thunder, where he was their all-time leading scorer. Magee also played for the Tampa Bay Mutiny and Chicago Fire in MLS. He retired as a player in 2004 and returned to the Thunder from 2006-08 as the club’s Head Coach. In December 2007, he was selected to coach the US Maccabi team in the 2007 Pan American Maccabi Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he helped lead the team to the gold medal.

In 2009, Magee was named Director of Soccer Development for the USL Portland Timbers FC. In 2011, he helped oversee the Timbers’ move to MLS as a part of the first team coaching staff and head coach of the reserve team. Magee joined D.C. United in 2014, where he was a first-team assistant coach and coach of the club’s U23 side, before joining Minnesota United in 2016.
