OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced, today, the team’s award winners for the 2022 CFL season, as voted on by head coaches and members of the media.

– Defensive Lineman Lorenzo Mauldin IV is the team’s nominee for Most Outstanding Player, as well as unanimous nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player


– Receiver Nate Behar is the nominee for Most Outstanding Canadian.

– Offensive lineman Jacob Ruby is the unanimous nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman

– Long snapper Louis-Phillippe Bourassa was nominated for the John Agro Special Teams award as the league’s Most Oustanding Special Teams Player

– Running back Devonte Williams is the nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie.

The REDBLACKS nominees will compete for East Division honours this month and finally, league-wide awards, which will be announced during the 109th Grey Cup Week.

Mauldin, 30, has seen the best season of his CFL career, during his first campaign with the REDBLACKS. The Sacramento, California product has exploded to the top of the CFL sack leaderboards, with 16, setting a REDBLACKS record for the most in a single season. Mauldin has also recorded 41 tackles, and two forced fumbles, this season.

In his sixth CFL campaign, and third with Ottawa, the 28-year-old Behar also enjoyed the most productive season of his career, in 2022. Behar set career high’s in every statistical category; with 140 catches on 67 targets, for 727 yards and two touchdowns, in 13 games. A native of London, Ontario, Behar also racked up 254 yards after the catch, and averaged 12.3 yards per reception.

Ruby, 29, arrived to the REDBLACKS for his first season with the team, as part of a rebuilt offensive line. The 6’7 325lbs London, Ontario native has started in all 17 games, this season, and has had a standout season as a member of the Ottawa front, both in the run game, and in pass protection.

A longtime fixture on Bob Dyce’s world-class special teams units, the 30-year-old Bourassa rebounded after missing half of the 2021 season due to injury, and appeared in all 17 games with the REDBLACKS, this season. Hailing from Shawinigan, Quebec, Bourassa serves as a critical component in the Ottawa kicking game, along with kicker Lewis Ward, and punter Richie Leone.

A native of Columbia, Maryland, Williams has appeared in eight games with the REDBLACKS during his rookie campaign. The 25-year-old has carried the ball 90 times, earning 454 yards on the ground, and averaging five yards per carry. Williams has also contributed in the passing game, with 27 receptions out of the backfield, for a total of 159 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per catch.

The REDBLACKS take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at TD Place, Saturday, in their final game of the 2022 season.
