Sea Dogs Acquire 2nd Round Pick for Overage Forward Marshall Lessard

October 25, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

The Saint John Sea Dogs have completed a trade with the Baie Comeau Drakkar, acquiring a 2023 2nd Round Selection in exchange for overage forward Marshall Lessard.

Lessard was one of four 20-year-old players vying for three overage lineup spots this season. The gritty sniper was part of the Sea Dogs leadership group this season but only dressed in two games due to injury, registering one goal and one assist.

“I would like to thank the city and the fans,” said Lessard. “Playing for the Sea Dogs was a real honour. Nothing but good memories and good friends were made in Saint John. Thank you #CityofChampions.”

Lessard was acquired by the Sea Dogs in a flurry of activity at the memorable 2021-2022 trade deadline. The gritty veteran registered 10 points in 19 regular season games with the Sea Dogs and dressed in all four Memorial Cup games, on route to winning the 2022 Memorial Cup. He has totalled 85 points in 138 QMJHL contests.

“Marsh is a great person and teammate” said Sea Dogs President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie. “It’s not ideal having four 20-year-old players on your roster when you can only dress three, and we made it a priority to ensure that all of our overage players have full-time homes this season. Marsh is a resilient young man and he will bring a lot of character and experience to Baie Comeau. For us, second round picks are valuable and important for our future. I am confident that our scouts will make the most of the selection.”

Recent second round selections by the Sea Dogs include current Sea Dogs Captain Charlie DesRoches (32nd overall in 2018) and veterans Brady Burns (29th overall in 2018) and Peter Reynolds (21st overall in 2019).
