Fiddler-Schultz Scores Five as Hitmen Beat Raiders 6-2

October 23, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Prince Albert Raiders News Release

It was the Riley Fiddler-Schultz show in Calgary on Sunday night at the Saddledome. The overage captain for the Hitmen scored five goals in a 6-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders, who came in playing their third game in three nights.

Sloan Stanick opened the scoring for the Raiders on the powerplay less than three minutes into the game with his third goal of the season, with Landon Kosior and Evan Herman picking up assists on the goal. After being shutout the night before in Red Deer, Prince Albert got off to a good start, leading the Hitmen early 1-0.

However after that, the Hitmen took over. More significantly, it became the Riley Fiddler-Schultz show. The overage captain not only scored a natural hat trick in the first period, but Fiddler-Schultz scored four goals in the opening frame to give the Hitmen a 1-0 lead.

His first goal of the game came on Calgary’s first powerplay of the contest just over five minutes into the game to tie things up at 1-1. Less than 10 minutes later, Fiddler-Schultz went on a tear. The forward scored three more goals in less than three minutes, giving the Hitmen a 4-1 lead, and chasing Raider starter Max Hildebrand out of the net to be replaced by Tikhon Chaika.

Prince Albert put together their best shift of the period in the late stages of the first period, but couldn’t cut into the lead before the buzzer went, as the Hitmen took a 4-1 lead into the second period, leading in shots 14-12.

While Grayden Siepmann scored the lone goal in the second period for Calgary 2:27 into the frame to make it 5-1, the middle frame was highlighted by the rough stuff. Just under midway through the period, Terrell Goldsmith and Carson Wetsch got into a fight at center ice. The much larger Goldsmith laid some heavy blows on Wetsch, including a couple of shots on him after the two went down to the ice. The five minute fighting majors were just the start of the altercations to come.

Late in the period, after Evan Herman got his stick slashed in a faceoff and Sloan Stanick was cross checked into the boards, both undetected by officials, an angry Herman proceeded to run over Brayden Peters in the Hitmen goal, which started another big scrum around the Calgary net. As a result, Herman was handed five minutes and a game penalty. The remainder of the period saw a scrum after every whistle, ramping up the intensity of the game.

When all was said and done after 40 minutes, the Hitmen took their 5-1 lead into the third and final frame.

Fiddler-Schultz continued his historic game in the third period, scoring his fifth goal of the game just 31 seconds into the final frame. The early goal made it a 6-1 Hitmen lead.

The highlight of the game for the Raiders came at the 13:12 mark of the third period, despite the large margin on the scoreboard. From the point, Owen Boucher ripped a shot from the point home for his first Western Hockey League goal. His tally made it a 6-2 Calgary lead, with Carson Latimer and Eric Johnston picking up assists.

From there, Calgary was able to shut things down, winning the game by a 6-2 final. With the loss, the Raiders fell to 3-8-2-0 on the season. The team returns home on Saturday night to take on the Swift Current Broncos.
