Oil Kings Dropped by Blades

Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings suffered a second straight loss on their current six-game homestand after dropping a 5-1 outcome to the Saskatoon Blades at Rogers Place on Sunday afternoon.
Despite a slow start to the first period, the Oil Kings were able to find their game in the second half of the opening 20 minutes and went on to outshoot the Blades 10-7 in the frame, but neither Kolby Hay for Edmonton or Ethan Chadwick for Saskatoon would yield a goal as the two clubs arrived at the intermission scoreless.
After no scoring in the first period, the middle stanza would see a five-goal outburst with the Blades collecting four of them.
Less than two minutes into the period, Ben Wright collected his first career WHL goal for the Oil Kings on a nice setup by Luke Robson from below the goal line. Wright’s goal came just 27 seconds after the Blades had opened the scoring on a goal from Trevor Wong.
At 10:32 of the period, the Blades restored their lead with a 5-on-3 power play goal from Brandon Lisowsky.
Rowan Calvert extended the visitor’s lead to two with under four minutes left in the frame after he powered his way to the Edmonton net and hoisted the puck over the blocker of Hay.
With just 40 seconds left before the intermission, Wong tipped in his second of the afternoon off a shot from Lisowsky.
In the third period, the Blades tacked on to their lead one more time with an early power play goal from Conner Roulette and cruised to the four-goal victory.
Hay finished the night making 27 saves for the Oil Kings, while Chadwick turned in 31 for the Blades. Edmonton was 0-for-5 on the power play, Saskatoon was 2-for-7.
Next up, the Oil Kings continue their six-game homestand Thursday night when they play host to the Vancouver Giants at 7:00 P.M.
