Elks Acquire OL Gibbon and Pick from Tiger-Cats

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Elks announced Friday that the team has acquired national offensive lineman Jesse Gibbon and a second-round pick in the 2023 Canadian Football League draft from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for national offensive lineman David Beard and a fourth-round pick in the 2023 CFL draft.

Gibbon, 25, has suited up in all 11 games for the Ti-Cats this season, his third in the CFL after being selected by Hamilton second overall in the 2019 CFL Draft. The six-foot-five, 300-pound former University of Waterloo standout has played a total of 42 regular season games in his CFL career and appeared in five postseason contests, including both the 2019 and 2021 Grey Cups.

Beard, 29, has spent his entire seven-year CFL career in Edmonton, suiting up for 94 regular season games, including 10 in 2022. The Sherwood Park native was drafted 16th overall in 2015 out of the University of Alberta and won a Grey Cup with the Green and Gold in his rookie season.

The Elks return to action on Monday, when Edmonton takes on the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium in the annual Labour Day Classic at 2:30 p.m. MDT.
