Rockford IceHogs Opening 2022-23 Season in Saturday Showdown against Manitoba Moose

The Rockford IceHogs kicks off its 24th Stateline professional year against the Manitoba Moose today at 2:00 PM CT to open the 2022-23 season and 16th campaign in the American Hockey League at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The clubs will face-off eight times this season.


Players to Watch

Forward Lukas Reichel led the Hogs as a 19-year old rookie in scoring and set the record for the most points in a single season by a rookie in the 2021-22 campaign. As a first-round draft pick in 2020, Reichel is expected to be called up to the Blackhawks in the near future. Goaltender Arvid Soderblom returns for his second season with the IceHogs where he was ranked 11th in the AHL preseason among goalies (60+minutes) with a 1.99 goals-against average.

Captain’s Orders

Returning as the IceHogs team captain for his third consecutive season is forward Garrett Mitchell. Defenseman Adam Clendening and forwards Josiah Slavin and Dylan Sikura join Mitchell as Alternate Captains for the 2022-23 campaign.

Welcome to the Show

The Rockford IceHogs opens their 16th American Hockey League season and 24th in the Stateline today against the Manitoba Moose! The Hogs hold an 8-13-1-1 all-time record in season openers and are 1-6-1-1 in season openers on the road. With hopes four-game, season-openers of breaking the drought in the 2022-23 campaign, the Hogs look to overcome the setbacks from the previous 2021-22 (Oct. 15 at MI, 1-6 L), 2020-21 (Feb. 6 vs. CHI, 4-5 L), 2019-20 (Oct. 4 at IA, 2-3 L), and 2018-19 (Oct. 5 at CLE, 1-4 L).

Almost Home

The IceHogs begin the year for the seventh time in the last eight seasons with a road matchup. After the opening weekend wraps up in Manitoba on Sunday, October 16, the Hogs make the drive back home for a seven-game home stretch.

Back at it Again

The IceHogs and the Moose clash again after eight bouts last season where the Hogs split the head-to-head battles 5-3-0-0 with the Moose. The majority of Rockford’s wins came at home with only one victory at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where Goalie Arvid Soderblom racked up 26 saves. All time, the IceHogs are 26-23-3-3 against the Moose.
