October 14, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs will host the Medicine Hat Tigers for the first time since the 2018-19 season on Friday night.

17-year-old Kooper Gizowski leads the team in scoring, with seven points (1G-6A) over the first five games of the season. The Edmonton native is already just one point shy of his 2021-22 season total (4G-4A). He’s followed by Berkly Catton (2G-3A), Chase Bertholet (1G-3A) and Tommaso De Luca (1G-3A). Mac Gross, Raegan Wiles, Ty Cheveldayoff and Saige Weinstein all have three points apiece, with Gross leading the way in goals (3).

Defenseman Ben Bonni scored his first career WHL goal against the Portland Winterhawks Sunday night. The goal came in his 24th game as a Chief.

Berkly Catton had two points (1G-1A) in Sunday’s matchup against Portland and is on a two-game point streak heading into tonight’s game.

Earlier this week, the Chiefs reassigned goaltender Manny Panghli to the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL. The Kamloops native was originally listed by the Chiefs and signed with the team in February 2021. Since then, he has appeared in 23 games as a Chief. Panghli remains on Spokane’s protected player list. The move brings the Chiefs’ active roster to 22, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
