Tigers Beat Single Game Goal Total to Dispatch Americans

October 13, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Kennewick, WA – The Medicine Hat Tigers went back and fourth with the Tri City Americans in the 1st period but never looked back in their 11-3 rout of the Americans Wednesday night at the Toyota Center.

The Tigers opened the just under five minutes into the game on a Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) shot thanks to Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) & Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, Lativa) but that was followed just 24 seconds later as Tyson Greenway would bank a second effort shot past Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Fort Saskatchewan, AB) to tie the game at 1-1. Back came the Tigers under two minutes later at 7:10 as Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) would bury his second goal on the season with assists coming from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB). to give the Tigers the lead right back, but as fast as the Tigers took the lead, they’d lose it 29 seconds later as Adam Mechura would cash in to tie the game at 2-2. But cue Boehm again as he would add another off a skate on a tee and bangs home his second of the game and third of the season to make 3-2 Tigers after 1.

Cue the rout, Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) would make his return to the line-up after missing Tuesday’s game versus Seattle for his second of the season at 2:42, Hodass & Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) would give the Tigers a two goal cushion. The goals kept coming as Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would notch his second of the road trip and season on a Medicine Hat power play to make it 5-2 thanks to the handy work of Krebs & Lee. Pasha Bocharov (Escondido, CA) would score his 1st of the year from Krebs & Owen MacNeil (Calgary, AB) to increase the Tiger lead to 6-2 after 2.

Off to the third where the fun didn’t stop and milestones were reached, Brenden Lee would get his 4th goal of the year and 3rd power play marker for the Tigers from Hodass & Krebs at 4:11. Shane Smith would get his second of the game at 11:23 from Parsons & Lee to add to their point totals on the night. Tri City would add their final goal of the night from Deegan McMillan just 37 seconds later.

Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would get his 4th of the season to give the Tigers a 9-3 lead from Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) & Brayden Boehm’s third point of the night. The Tigers weren’t done and Shane Smith wasn’t either as he scored his 1st career hattrick on a shorthanded breakaway (the second in as many games for the Tigers penalty kill) at 17:10 and just for good measure the Tigers added another power play goal courtesy of Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) marking his 10th point of the season and putting him 6th in WHL scoring as of Wednesday night with 8 seconds left in the game.
