Fighters Sign Cedarius Rookard and Braylon Broughton
October 11, 2022 – Indoor Football League (IFL) – Frisco Fighters News Release
FRISCO, Texas – The Frisco Fighters announced today that the team has signed defensive back Cedarius Rookard and defensive lineman Braylon Broughton.
Rookard, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound defenseman comes from the Tri-City Rush Professional Indoor Football Organization. Prior to Rookard signing with the Fighters, the South Carolina native played collegiately at Troy University from 2015-2018. At Troy, Rookard was named to the 2017 All-Sun Belt First Team during his senior year, where he tied the conference lead in interceptions, returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown to help Troy beat Nebraska, and finished the season third on the team with 64 tackles. Rookard averaged 11.0 yards per punt return and was named 2018 Dollar General Bowl MVP.
“Cedarius is that hybrid safety/ corner that can stop the run but also cover” said head coach Billy Back. He is a physical player that plays with an attitude! We were put in some situations last season in the secondary that Cedarius will be able to change the dynamic in this season.”
Broughton, the 6-foot-6, 272-pound defenseman and Dallas, Texas native joins the Fighters after playing for the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints as an undrafted defenseman.
Broughton played collegiately at Texas Christian University from 2008-2011. During his senior year at TCU, Braylon recorded career highs in all major statistical categories and played in all 13 games. Following his collegiate career, Broughton participated in Pro Dy and recorded 4.55 seconds on his 40-yard dash and was able to bench 26 reps of 225 pounds.
“At 6-foot-6, he is a big athletic defensive end who’s probably as fast as some of our skill guys” said Back. Another local product who we are excited to see work.”
The Frisco Fighters return to the field next spring for the 2023 season. Full Squadron Memberships are on sale now. Single-game tickets will be on sale at a later date.
