Former Tennessee Titan Joins Jacksonville Sharks

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Sharks announce today that they have re-signed David Gilbert for the 2023 season under head coach Jason Gibson. Gilbert played in seven games last season including the playoff game where he split reps between the defensive end and linebacker. Gilbert had six tackles and one sack last year. His best game came against the Orlando Predators in Jacksonville where he racked up three tackles in one night during the Sharks 56-28 victory over their in-state rival.
Prior to his time in Jacksonville, Gilbert played in the The Spring League (TSL) in 2020 for the Aviators. He also spent three seasons in the Indoor Football League (IFL) where he played for the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles (2017), the Colorado Crush (2016), and Nebraska Danger (2015). As a rookie in Nebraska, he finished the season with 34 tackles and 1.5 as a defensive lineman.
David Gilbert was an undrafted NFL free agent after college where he competed in rookie mini camp, training camp, and the NFL preseason as a linebacker for the Tennessee Titans. Gilbert had a successful career at the University of Wisconsin where he played in over 31 games for the Badgers. He had a career total of 79 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. David won an All-Big 10 honorable mention as a junior before transferring to the University of Miami for the final season of his college career.
Gilbert is a native of Coral Springs, FL where he was a All-State, All-County, All-Area high school football player at Northeast High School. He ended his high school career with over 24 sacks and 130 tackles on varsity.
