The Aftermath: Storm Defeats Lancers 4-3 in Shootout

RALSTON,NE – The Tri-City Storm defeated the Omaha Lancers by a final score of 4-3 in a shootout Friday night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena to improve to 3-0-0-0 on the season. Brock James, Cameron O’Neill, and Kieran Cebrian scored for Tri-City during regulation time. Arvega Hovsepyan and Graham Gamache each netted a goal in the shootout to secure the win for the Storm.


Tanner Rowe gave Omaha an early lead at 2:54 of Friday’s 1st period. The goal was Rowe’s first of the season and was assisted by Will Diamond and Adam Cardona. Tri-City netted back-to-back goals in the final six minutes of the period to surge to a one-goal lead. The Storm’s first goal of the night was scored by Brock James at 14:30 of the period. James’ goal was his first career goal in the USHL and was assisted by Arvega Hovsepyan. Hovsepyan’s assist was the first assist, and first point, of his USHL career. Cameron O’Neill scored a goal at 16:26 of the 1st period to give Tri-City a 2-1 lead in the game. O’Neill’s goal was his first of the season and was assisted by Cameron Briere and Kieran Cebrian. Briere’s assist was the first assist, and first point, of his USHL career. The Storm outshot the Lancers 13-9 in the 1st period, and the team carried a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period.

Kieran Cebrian scored his team-leading 3rd goal of the season sixty-nine seconds into Friday’s 2nd period. The goal was assisted by Sam Meritähti. Cebrian’s goal gave Tri-City a 3-1 lead in the game. Charlie Lurie notched his first goal of the season at 8:37 of the 2nd period to bring Omaha within one goal of Tri-City’s lead. Lurie’s goal was his first of the season and was assisted by Alex Bump and Marcus Broberg. Aleksi Kivioja scored an unassisted goal less than one minute later to bring the game to a 3-3 tie. Kivioja’s goal was netted at 9:18 of the 2nd period. Tri-City outshot Omaha 13-4 in the 2nd period, and the 3rd period began in a tie.

The Lancers outshot the Storm 13-6 in the 3rd period, but no tiebreaking goal was netted. Tri-City and Omaha played an exciting five-minute overtime period with the Lancers outshooting the Storm 2-1. Friday’s game required a shootout to decide a winner. Arvega Hovsepyan and Graham Gamache each notched a goal during the shootout. Karlis Mezsargs denied Charlie Lurie and Evan Werner during the shootout to seal the win in goal for Tri-City.

Mezsargs collected the victory in goal for the Storm after making 25 saves on 28 shots throughout 65 minutes of game time. Michael Hrabal recorded the loss in goal for the Lancers after stopping 30 of the Storm’s 33 shots on goal during the game. Tri-City outshot Omaha 34-28, and improved to 3-0-0-0 on the season with the road victory. Graham Gamache was named the 1st Star of the Game, with Kieran Cebrian and Brock James collecting 2nd and 3rd Star honors, respectively.
