WINDSOR, Colo. – Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC are set to end their regular season against FC Tucson tomorrow. Both teams are coming off playing Central Valley Fuego FC, with Northern Colorado winning 1-0 and FC Tucson losing 2-0.
Tucson’s game against Central Valley was a late one starting two hours after the original kickoff time due to weather. The loss eliminated Tucson from making the playoffs this season, despite the hot run they’ve been on lately. Prior to the match, they had been unbeaten in six straight, winning four of those matches.
Louis Pérez is the man to watch for Tucson. Pérez is the co-leader on the team for goals scored this season (5), and the team leader in assists (7). He is also amongst the top of the league in chances created with 52. Though, that still has him 26 behind Arthur Rogers.
With wins in four of their last six games, the Hailstorm are piecing it together when it matters the most. With second and eighth place only separated by five points, it is a seven-way race for the last five playoff spots.
Goalkeeper Johan Peñaranda is coming off his fifth clean sheet of the season in the win over Central Valley Fuego FC. The New York native has brought home a number of USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Week honors and a USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Month honor in July as well. He has a 1.17 goals against average (GAA), amongst the best in the league.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. MDT at Severance High School. Expect the temperature to be in the low 60s with clear skies for the match. This game, as with all USL League One games this season, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
