Barnstormers Extend Contract with Head Coach Dave Mogensen

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers have signed Head Coach Dave Mogensen to a new extended contract, General Manager Juli Pettit announced today.
Mogensen signed on with the Barnstormers ahead of the 2022 season finishing the regular season with a 9-7 record and leading the franchise to their 5th consecutive playoff berth. Initially signing a two-year contract through the 2023 season, Mogensen has proven his commitment to the Barnstormers and to Des Moines extending his contract through 2024.
“We are beyond excited to have Coach Mogensen committed through the 2024 season,” said General Manager Juli Pettit. “We feel like we finally have our feet back on the ground and are excited for the future of the Barnstormers. We share the same vision for where we would like to see this team go and are eager to pave the way. The talent and the character of athletes that Coach Mogensen signed in 2022 and has already begun signing for 2023 is exactly what we want to build our roster and our franchise around.”
The Iowa Barnstormers look forward to continuing to build upon the foundation created through the 2022 season with Coach Mogensen leading the football team.
“2022 was a great year. We established our vision from the front office down of what Barnstormers football can be,” said Coach Mogensen. “There were exciting games on the field, great community engagement, and more wins ended up in our favor than losses. We do feel that we can and improve in all aspects in 2023 and beyond. We have been able to bring back a great core of our team and feel as though that core will be the foundation upon future success we have. I’m hopeful that we will eventually look back to the 2022 season as the one that set up this franchise for a run of long-term success both on and off the field.”
The work has not stopped for Coach Mogensen as he has spent the off-season preparing for 2023.
“We want to continue to bring the exciting style of football, both on offense and defense, that we had last year and hope that the experience gained by our returning players will allow us to overcome some of the mental mistakes we made in 2022,” said Mogensen. “Expect to see some new faces on the field and on the staff, some new wrinkles in all facets of gameplay, but the same energy and passion that you saw in 2022.”
