IceDogs Complete the Michigan Sweep
October 2, 2022 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL) – Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs dominated in Saginaw tonight for a 7-2 win to complete the Michigan Home Opener sweep, going 2-0 this weekend.
Niagara got the ball rolling early, drawing first blood in this evenings match up. 2:41 into the game, Daniel Michaud picked up the rebound from Agostinelli and a great effort by Jacob LeBlanc to maintain possession in the offensive zone. After going down 2-1, Daniel Michaud fed a pass to IceDogs rookie, Kevin He who notched his second career goal and the game was tied at 2 at the 17 minute mark. Almost 2 minutes later, Aidan Castle capitalized out front on the power play to take the lead heading into the second period.
A poke-check from Rodwin Dionicio to break up an offensive rush sent Declan Waddick and Nolan Dann up the ice to set up the defensemen up for a one timer and the IceDogs led by two with 13 seconds to go in the second.
A minute into the third and final period, Brenden Sirizzotti played it to Matthew Papais who powered his way into Saginaw territory and set up David Jesus from behind the net to beat the net-minder high glove. Just over 2 minutes later, Aidan Castle glided into the neutral zone and put Waddick in a position to score his first of the season. A pass from Jacob LeBlanc gave all 3 players their second point of the contest. Later on in the frame, former Saginaw forward, Evan Klein, centred the puck to Daniel Michaud in front, who potted his second of the night at 5:02 in the third and wrap a bow on the game.
Owen Flores stopped 28 for 30 and kept the momentum in favour of Niagara throughout the entire night. Despite only having 22 shots on goal the IceDogs made them count, taking a 7-2 win in this Sunday evening matchup in Saginaw.
Next up: The IceDogs will travel Barrie on Thursday to take on the Colts and then head home for a busy weekend at the Meridian Centre to play the visiting Oshawa Generals on Friday and the number 1 OHL ranked Guelph Storm on Saturday night.
Tickets for both home games are available here.
